<image:caption>Don’t use any over head lighting if you can help it. Create a warm hug with your lighting. Your Christmas tree is a good example of this. Candles, real or fake flame are great for this. I enjoy mixing both into my home. You can also use different types of fairy lights or even change the temperature of your smart light bulbs. I also love using Christmas lights indoors to create a vibe. If you have a fireplace, light a fire. The glow from the fireplace is perfect! No matter what you use, just keep it warm and cozy.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Slow hobbies will help you fill your extra free time spent indoors. Creating crafts from tree clippings or making them into center pieces, is one of my favorite things to do this time of the year. You can knit or just create a yarn craft. I made the yarn garland pictured to the right. Some other great slow hobbies are reading, journaling and painting.</image:caption>

Add the whip cream and holiday sprinkles to your coffee. Create a new extra cozy morning and night routine. Buy yourself the flowers. Wear the dress to your own living room dance party. Do whatever makes you smile at the end of the day.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Switching out something as simple as your bedding seasonally can create such a difference. I recently upgraded our bedding and I cannot tell you how much of a difference it has made with my mood. I have always wanted a hotel style bed but with extra cozy. I added a neutral duvet and cozy textured white blanket on top, some evergreen tree pillows are more. I left our sheets the same but I know a lot of people like to use flannel sheets this time of the year. Switch up your bedding, pillows, art, candles, slippers, robes and decor seasonally.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The small New England town of Coventry had weathered a thousand blizzards...but never one like this. Icy figures danced in the wind and gazed through children's windows with soul-chilling eyes. People wandered into the whiteout and were never seen again. Families were torn apart, and the town would never be the same. Now, as a new storm approaches twelve years later, the folks of Coventry are haunted by the memories of that dreadful blizzard and those who were lost in the snow. Photographer Jake Schapiro mourns his little brother, Isaac, even as-tonight-another little boy is missing. Mechanic and part-time thief Doug Manning's life has been forever scarred by the mysterious death of his wife, Cherie, and now he’s starting over with another woman and more ambitious crimes. Police detective Joe Keenan has never been the same since that night, when he failed to save the life of a young boy . . . and the boy’s father vanished in the storm only feet away. And all the way on the other side of the country, Miri Ristani receives a phone call . . . from a man who died twelve years ago. As old ghosts trickle back, this new storm will prove to be even more terrifying than the last. Get your copy: https://go.magik.ly/ml/1d1j0/</image:caption>

<image:caption>During the Victorian era, it became traditional for publishers of newspapers and magazines to print ghost stories during the Christmas season for chilling winter reading by the fireside or candlelight. Now for the first time thirteen of these tales are collected here, including a wide range of stories from a diverse group of authors, some well-known, others anonymous or forgotten. Readers whose only previous experience with Victorian Christmas ghost stories has been Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol will be surprised and delighted at the astonishing variety of ghostly tales in this volume. <image:caption>West Hall, Vermont, has always been a town of strange disappearances and old legends. The most mysterious is that of Sara Harrison Shea, who, in 1908, was found dead in the field behind her house just months after the tragic death of her daughter. Now, in present day, nineteen-year-old Ruthie lives in Sara's farmhouse with her mother, Alice, and her younger sister. Alice has always insisted that they live off the grid, a decision that has weighty consequences when Ruthie wakes up one morning to find that Alice has vanished. In her search for clues, she is startled to find a copy of Sara Harrison Shea's diary hidden beneath the floorboards of her mother's bedroom. As Ruthie gets sucked into the historical mystery, she discovers that she's not the only person looking for someone that they've lost. But she may be the only one who can stop history from repeating itself. Get your copy: https://go.magik.ly/ml/1d1jh/</image:caption>

<image:caption>Mordecai Tremaine, former tobacconist and perennial lover of romance novels, has been invited to spend Christmas in the sleepy village of Sherbroome at the country retreat of one Benedict Grame. Arriving on Christmas Eve, he finds that the revelries are in full flow - but so too are tensions amongst the assortment of guests. Midnight strikes and the party-goers discover that it's not just presents nestling under the tree...there's a dead body too. A dead body that bears a striking resemblance to Father Christmas. With the snow falling and the suspicions flying, it's up to Mordecai to sniff out the culprit - and prevent someone else from getting murder for Christmas. <image:caption>In Hercule Poirot's Christmas, the holidays are anything but merry when a family reunion is marred by murder — and the notoriously fastidious investigator is quickly on the case. The wealthy Simeon Lee has demanded that all four of his sons — one faithful, one prodigal, one impecunious, one sensitive — and their wives return home for Christmas. But a heartwarming family holiday is not exactly what he has in mind. He bedevils each of his sons with barbed insults and finally announces that he is cutting off their allowances and changing his will. Poirot is called in the aftermath of Simeon Lee's announcement. <image:caption>In a vast, mysterious house on the cliffs near Dover, the Silver family is reeling from the hole punched into its heart. Lily is gone and her twins, Miranda and Eliot, and her husband, the gentle Luc, mourn her absence with unspoken intensity. All is not well with the house, either, which creaks and grumbles and malignly confuses visitors in its mazy rooms, forcing winter apples in the garden when the branches should be bare. Generations of women inhabit its walls. And Miranda, with her new appetite for chalk and her keen sense for spirits, is more attuned to them than she is to her brother and father. She is leaving them slowly - Slipping away from them - And when one dark night she vanishes entirely, the survivors are left to tell her story. <image:caption>. Have Yourself a Dickensian Christmas! That’s what the Dingley Dell, a secluded hotel in the English countryside, promises. Arabella Allen is eager to partake in the dancing, skating, and spiked punch—especially with Boswell, Dickens scholar and charming host. But when a blizzard leaves the guests snowbound, the cozy trappings feel more like an icy trap. Finding a frozen corpse can do that. Now Arabella is questioning the real motive behind drawing this assortment of strangers to the middle of nowhere. With all communication to the outside word cut off, the only one she can ask is Boswell. But as the temperatures drop and the body count rises, Arabella doubts she can trust even him on this increasingly deadly silent night. Get your copy: https://go.magik.ly/ml/1d1ko/</image:caption>

<image:caption>Clare remembers the cold. She remembers abandoned cars and children’s toys littered across the road. She remembers dark shapes in the snow and a terror she can’t explain. And then…nothing. When she wakes, aching and afraid in a stranger’s gothic home, he tells her she was in an accident. He claims he saved her. Clare wants to leave, but a vicious snowstorm has blanketed the world in white, trapping them together, and there’s nothing she can do but wait. At least the stranger seems kind…but Clare doesn’t know if she can trust him. He promised they were alone here, but she sees and hears things that convince her something else is creeping about the surrounding woods, watching. Waiting. Between the claustrophobic storm and the inescapable sense of being hunted, Clare is on edge…and increasingly certain of one thing: Her car crash wasn't an accident. Something is waiting for her to step outside the fragile safety of the house... something monstrous, something unfeeling. Get your copy: https://go.magik.ly/ml/1d1ku/</image:caption>

<image:caption>On December 21, 2020 I finally got to hike mirror lake. I have been wanting to do this hike since moving out here but its a pretty popular hike and every time we were up in the mountains the parking lot was already full. Everything happens for a reason though and im glad i waited to hike this trail in the winter.</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - Our weekend in the Olympic National Forest - Our stay in Sequim, WA</image:title>
<image:caption>This time we stayed in an adorable brand new airbnb, The Olympic Sky Haus. This cozy stay was 700 sq feet of cozy space with amazing mountain views all around. It was the perfect place for our weekend. You know I love everything cozy and this place had all the right touches with its decor. I love staying places that have a homey touch and comfort to them. It’s about 20 mins from downtown Sequim and close to the beach and hiking trails. Book your stay on Airbnb here: Olympic Sky Haus</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - Our weekend in the Olympic National Forest - Downtown Sequim</image:title>
<image:caption>Hurricane coffee company - I found the coziest coffee shop in this cute little town. I wanted to sit in the chair and read a book all day but they only had one chair and we had plans so I couldn’t. I got their famous Honey Lavender Rose Latte and egg/cheese breakfast sandwich. We walked the downtown a little more and found this decor store called Over the Fence. I love finding small decor pieces in these kinda of stores. It feels more unique and you are supporting a small business. I went home with a few places from here and if you follow me on instagram then you would have seen the dinning table that came home with us. I also found a little library! Those are always a fun surprise. Later in the day we made the 40min drive to Port Angles for lunch at our favorite place Little Devils Lunchbox. If you read my Forks, WA blog then you will know this one well.</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - Our weekend in the Olympic National Forest - Hiking Striped Peak Trail</image:title>
<image:caption>We were only able to fit in one hike on our weekend trip this time. We hiked 2 miles of this 5 mile trail called Striped Peak Trail. We stopped about a mile or so into the hike because this is the view you get to see and this was our goal. I know a mile doesn’t sound like a lot but the elevation gain is quick and there is a lot of stairs and steep cliffs to climb to get to this one. We got lucky and once we reached the beach we had a pocket of sunshine. I of course found mushrooms. It’s worth mentioning that we did not see any rain until the day we were leaving to go home. We had cloudy skies but no rain. This trail is dog friendly.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We drove up on one of the wettest days I have ever seen in the PNW! We checked into the Bowline Hotel around 5pm. The hotel use to be a cannery on the water front and the renovations they made to create 40 rooms and a bar, does not go unnoticed. You can see all the exposed beams and more in your room. Upon check in you are greeted by the front desk and offered a glass of champagne, such a nice touch. The lobby is also a bar called the Knot bar, more on that one later! This lobby is one of the coziest ones i’ve seen at the coast!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Every room comes with a cozy fireplace that keeps your room nice and cozy. You know I love a cozy fire! Something that really stuck out to me and added such a nice touch was the coffee and tea bar in your room. They provide a french press for your coffee and lose leaf tea. You don’t see that in your day to day hotel room. Bowline is such a nice boutique hotel. Some but not all rooms have a river view and/or bath tub. We stayed one night in the Luxe Trolly view king and one night in the river view king.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PNW - Leavenworth, WA - Where we stayed.</image:title>
<image:caption>I have had this A-frame cabin on my wishlist for awhile now. When I found out we were going to head to Leavenworth, I had to book it. It is by far the coziest cabin I have stayed in. Its location was key for us and its pet friendly! This cabin is about 20 minutes from downtown Leavenworth and close to a lot of hiking trails. We had some unseasonably warm weather so we didn’t get to use the adorable wood burning fireplace but we did get to use the cedar hot tub. Click here to book this cabin.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PNW - Leavenworth, WA - Downtown Leavenworth</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the reason everyone visits this tiny but cute town. The whole town is a Bavarian Village. Every building is unique in its own way. There is so much food, shopping and of course beer in this town to explore. Make sure you stop and get a giant pretzel and beer at one of the local spots. I didn’t know this but there are pretzels at quite a few different stops. My best tip I can offer, if you go on an event weekend like we did, arrive as early as possible if you don’t want a long walk from your car to the town. Free parking is really limited and anything else is about $20 for the day or metered. We were there for Oktoberfest. Once we found parking, we explored Waterfront Park. It was so magical in a part of this park. Take a look at the last photo below, that was about center of this park. After we walked around quite a bit we decided it was time for libations. Our first drink and pretzel was at Ludwig’s German Restaurant. We walked around for a few more hours, looked at the shops then headed to Leavenworth Cider House. I got the cider flight and lets just say it was one of my highlights of this trip. You get to choose 5 out of 25 ciders that they had written up on a chalkboard when you enter for your flight. Later this night we went to Oktoberfest before heading back to the cabin.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PNW - Leavenworth, WA - Reindeer Farm</image:title>
<image:caption>This farm is what drew me to Leavenworth and is the reason I know about this town. It is one of the best experiences anyone can offer with animals. You must purchase your tickets online before you head down to play with the reindeer at Leavenworth Reindeer farm. I personally do not know anywhere else that will allow you to go into the pen and feed the reindeer. They have a cute little gift shop that you get to shop before and after the reindeer. I bought some Christmas stuff already! Once its your tours turn, they sit everyone in the outdoor seating area where they give a quick introduction to the farms history and some reindeer knowledge. Then its off to play with the reindeer! Once in the pen, the reindeer walk right up to you and will eat out of your hand. The first reindeer that walked up to me was named Olaf. It was too fitting, he’s in the picture to the left. Olaf lost one of his antlers early so he’s rocking one for the rest of the season. I wish this farm was closer, because I would visit every month! They also have other animals on the farm you can interact with. We saw some horses, cats, bunnies, chickens and turkeys. They all were roaming freely right where you enter the farm, except for the horses and bunnies.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PNW - Leavenworth, WA - Hikes</image:title>
<image:caption>We only did one hike unfortunately. It was pretty smoky from two far enough away fires our whole trip. We didn’t think it was a great idea to explore to much outside. We explored around the cabin, which is the picture to the left. We found this pretty bridge and Im a sucker for bridges with evergreens in sight. The only hike we did was Hidden Lake Trail. It was a really easy trail but it offered beautiful Autumn colors and a waterfall. If I head back up to Leavenworth, more hikes will be a must. Hopefully there won’t be any fires.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This family run farm is located in Tualatin, OR not far from downtown Portland, OR. This is the perfect start to kick off the Fall season. Sunflowers peek in mid August and last through most of September. They are the perfect transitional flower and activity. https://www.leefarmsoregon.com</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - 7 Fall things to do in Oregon this season! - 2. The Pumpkin Patch, Sauvie Island</image:title>
<image:caption>This one of the original Pumpkin Patches in Oregon. It’s the one we all know about and most likely are always talking about. They have a huge U-pick patch, along with a cafe, corn maze, market store and all your farm favorite foods. I go to this patch every year since I moved to Oregon. It’s a Fall staple and tradition for me. https://www.thepumpkinpatch.com</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - 7 Fall things to do in Oregon this season! - 3. Halloweentown, St. Helens OR</image:title>
<image:caption>If you’re a fan of the disney movie Halloweentown or even Twilight, this is a must stop day trip for you. Every year in the downtown of St. Helens they recreate the filming scene of the great pumpkin that was used in the 90’s hit movie Halloweentown. They also filmed other shots in this location. They even filmed some of Twilight here. I wrote a blog on Halloweentown. For me this was a day trip, they create a ton of photo stops, offer up all the history and filming locations for both movies and you’re right along the famous Columbia River. https://spiritofhalloweentown.com</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - 7 Fall things to do in Oregon this season! - 4. Go leaf peep’n</image:title>
<image:caption>Not only is the NorthWest full of lush evergreens, but we also get some pretty amazing color. The only thing that’s different is we get most of our color by planted trees around the city and surrounding suburbs. As you can see the car in my photo. Our forest get color, mostly yellows, and the farther you get away from the city the more you may see mixed in with evergreens. Peak season: I would say the first 2 weeks of Oct.(weather depending) As long as we don’t get a crazy wind, rain storm, most trees will change together and stay full for a couple weeks.</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - 7 Fall things to do in Oregon this season! - 5. Go apple picking in the Fruit Loop</image:title>
<image:caption>In Oregon, apple picking is a September activity most years. In the Hood River area of Oregon there is a place called the fruit loop. Its miles and miles of fruit orchards. My favorite is the Mt View Orchards. You can see Mt Hood in the distance and they also have a winery and U-pick Apples, pears, peaches and dahlias. https://www.mtvieworchards.com</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - 7 Fall things to do in Oregon this season! - 6. Go for a Fall hike</image:title>
<image:caption>Oregon has no shortages of hikes to offer. You can hike along the Columbia River Gorge, to the top of Multnomah Falls or a local hike to downtown in Forest Park.</image:caption>

<image:title>PNW - 7 Fall things to do in Oregon this season! - 7. Rent a cabin in the woods</image:title>
<image:caption>The good thing about the PNW is that there is no shortage of cabins to choose from! There are instagram famous A-Frames out here to your typical mom and pop cabin in the woods. I try to rent a new cabin once a year.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Recipes - Sourdough Discard Cookies (Copy) - Things I have learned:</image:title>
<image:caption>First and foremost, baking should always be fun! Everyone’s discard moisture will be different even my cookies vary a little with every batch. You know how sensitive sourdough is to its moisture. With that being said you may have to form most of the dough by hand if you do not see it forming.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Pie Dough Cut the butter into cubes. Keep it in the fridge till you need it. You don’t want this getting warm. In a food processor, blend flour, sugar, and salt. I like to sift my flour in but its not must. Add in the cubed butter and pulse. Pulse until butter is mixed. Mix it enough to where they are small chunks. Add in a little bit of the ice water at a time. I start with a tablespoon at a time. Pulse until combined. I used roughly 4 tablespoons for this. Once you see dough start to form, you have enough water. Press the dough together so it forms. It if it crumbles, add a splash more water. Place pie dough on to cling wrap. Use the cling wrap to form the dough into a ball. The goal is to handle the dough as little as possible. Split the dough in half. Wrap each dough in cling wrap. Flatten into a disc. Chill for 30 minutes.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Blueberry Filling In a saucepan over medium heat, stir the blueberries, cornstarch, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and salt. Cook until the blueberries soften and the purple blueberry juice starts to leak out. Crush some of the blueberries with a back of a wooden spoon. Cook until it thickens slightly. Take off heat and transfer to a bowl. It will thicken as it cools. Allow it to cool completely.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Recipes - Boo-Berry Ghost pies</image:title>
<image:caption>Start making the Ghost Pre heat oven to 400 Mix the egg and 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl. I didn’t have a cookie cutter big enough so I printed a ghost and cut it out. It works all the same. Sprinkle some flour on a clean dry surface. The goal is to use as little flour for this as possible. Start to roll out the dough to be about 1/4 think or just slightly thinner. Take your cookie cutter(or drawing) and cut the ghost shape. Make the ghost face in half of your ghost.(I used a frosting tip to cut mine out) Lay one layer of faceless ghost on a baking sheet. Don’t put them to close. Add one spoon full of boo-berry filling. Make sure you push some into the face space and in the middle of the body. Do not over fill or it will spill out. Use cold water and wet the edges of the faceless ghost. Place the faced ghost onto the ghost with the fulling. Use a fork and press the two shapes at the edges together. Place all ghost pies in the fridge for 15 - 20 minutes. Brush on your egg mix lightly on the ghosts. Sprinkle on course sugar. Place pies in oven for 20 - 25 minutes. Edges should be golden brown. Set out to cool and enjoy a scary yummy treat!</image:caption>
